Soliti nomi? forse, ma il festival del 2016 ha un programma decisamente interessante, che va a toccare tutti i generi, anche l'horror.Nessun italiano in Concorso, sembrava che Bellocchio fosse certi della partecipazione, e invece non ci sarà. L'unica presenza italiana per il momento è nella sezione Un Certain Regard, con il film di Stefano Mordini, Pericle Il Nero. Aspettiamo la Quinzaine per sapere se ci saranno altri italiani, è possibile la partecipazione di Virzì.
Com'era stato annunciato dai rumor non ci sarà Martin Scorsese con la sua ultima fatica (nel vero senso della parola) Silence, che a quanto pare potrebbe essere presentato al Festival di New York.
Tanti titoli interessanti in Concorso: Sean Penn, Almodovar, Xavier Dolan, Jarmusch, Ken Loach, i fratelli Dardenne, Park Chan-Wook, Jeff Nichols, Olivier Assayas, e Nicolas Winding Refn con il suo The Neon Demon, presentato come un "cannibal movie".
Grandi titoli anche Fuori Concorso, con Steven Spielberg che porta sulla croisette il suo The BFG (Il Gigante Gentile), poi Money Monster di Jodie Foster, e The Nice Guys, con la coppia Russell Crowe - Ryan Gosling.
Ad aprire la 69esima edizione del Festival di Cannes sarà Woody Allen con Cafè Society. Presidente di giuria George Miller, che al festival dello scorso anno presentò Mad Max: Fury Road, mattatore agli ultimi Oscar.
Il Festival si terrà dall'11 al 22 maggio.
