Oscar 2017 - le nomination

Sono state annunciate poco fa le nomination agli Oscar 2017. Qualche sorpresa e, di controparte, qualche assenza, di cui una abbastanza clamorosa.

Sono nove i nominati come miglior film: La La Land, Moonlight, Manchester by the Sea, Arrival, Lion, Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, Fences, e Hidden Figures, rientrato tra i nominato un po' a sorpresa.

Nelle cinquine degli attori spiccano due assenze. Manca Aaron Taylor-Johnson, fresco vincitore del Golden Globe 2017 per Animali Notturni, al suo posto è stato nominato Michael Shannon per lo stesso film. Molto più grave l'assenza di Amy Adams (Arrival) nella cinquina delle migliori attrici protagoniste. Un'assenza abbastanza incomprensibile, non solo perché la Adams offre una prova straordinaria e impeccabile, ma perché lei è il film, il suo personaggio e la sua performance sono il fulcro centrale e vero motore di Arrival che è stato nominato come miglior film. Una scelta davvero poco comprensibile. Allo stesso tempo Meryl Streep si è presa la sua ventesima nomination (magari per una volta potevano passare e lasciare il posto a un'altra? alla povera Amy Adams ad esempio?).

Il resto delle nomination non hanno riservato particolari sorprese. La La Land, favorito dai pronostici, ha portato a casa ben 14 nomination, record, come Titanic e Eva contro Eva. Nomination tecniche anche per Rogue One: As Star Wars Story, Star Trek Beyond, Animali Fantastici, Doctor Strange, e Il Libro della Giungla, film che probabilmente avrebbe meritato maggiore considerazione, così come Sully.
C'è anche un po' d'Italia, Fuocoammare di Gianfranco Rosi è stato nominato come miglior documentario.

Quest'anno c'è una grande varietà fra i nominati, dopo le proteste dello scorso anno, per gli Oscar 2017 è scongiurata quindi qualsiasi polemica.

Appuntamento al 26 febbraio con la cerimonia di premiazione.

SAG Awards 2017 - le nomination!

Rese note poco fa le nomination per gli Screen Actors Guild Awards 2017, il premio del sindacato degli attori americani, molto indicativo in chiave Oscar, spesso infatti i cinque attori e attrici nominati ai SAG vengono poi nominati anche agli Academy.

A farla da padrona è Manchester by the Sea, che ottiene quattro nomination. A seguire, con tre nomination, Fences e Moonlight.

Nomination anche per Emma Stone (molto agguerrita la categoria migliore attrice) e Ryan Gosling per La La Land, che però non è stato nominato nella categoria miglior cast. Sedicesima nomination ai SAG per Meryl Streep.

Nomination anche per le serie tv dove, oltre agli immancabili Downton Abbey e Game of Thrones, troviamo tra i nominati anche nuove serie come Westworld, Stranger Things, The Crown, This Is Us e People v. O.J. Simpson.

La cerimonia di premiazione si terrà il 29 gennaio. Ecco tutte le nomination.

'Manchester by the Sea' miglior film per la National Board of Review. 'Moonlight' vince i Gotham Awards

La stagione dei premi ormai ha preso il via, i primi verdetti arrivano dai Gotham Awards, premio dedicato al cinema indipendente, e dalla National Board of Review, organizzazione cinefila newyorkese formata da cinefili di diversa provenienza (studenti, insegnanti, storici, ecc).
Entrambi i premi sono moderatamente indicativi per gli Oscar, più che altro danno un'idea di chi potrebbe rientrare tra i nominati.

A trionfare ai Gotham Awards 2016 è stato Moonlight di Barry Jenkins, film d'apertura all'ultimo Festival di Roma, che si è portato a casa quattro premi: miglior film, migliore sceneggiatura, il premio del pubblico, e un premio speciale della giuria per il cast.

Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea) e Isabelle Huppert (Elle) sono stati premiati come migliore attore e attrice.

Altro giro, altro premio, altro vincitore. La National Board of Review ha assegnato il premio come miglior film a Manchester by the Sea di Kenneth Lonergan. Il film si è portato a casa anche i premi come migliore attore (Casey Affleck), sceneggiatura originale, e rivelazione maschile (Lucas Hedges), per un totale di quattro premi.

Il premio come migliore attrice è andato a Amy Adams per lo sci-fi Arrival. A vincere nelle categorie non protagonisti invece sono stati Jeff Bridges per Hell or High Water, e Naomie Harris per Moonlight, film che si è portato a casa anche il premio per la migliore regia.
Tra i premiati anche Silence di Martin Scorsese, che ancora non è uscito nelle sale, a cui è andato il premio per la migliore sceneggiatura non originale.

[Roma FF11] Manchester by the Sea - la recensione

Dopo la morte del fratello maggiore Joe, il tuttofare Lee Chandler torna a Manchester by the Sea, cittadina del Massachussets da cui era fuggito dopo la tragedia che aveva colpito la sua famiglia e dopo la separazione dalla moglie. Lì scopre che Joe lo ha nominato tutore di Patrick, il figlio sedicenne.

Il film, scritto e diretto da Kenneth Lonergan, si muove su due binari intrecciati fra loro, quello della commedia e della tragedia. 

I momenti fra Lee e Patrick sono davvero molto divertenti e i dialoghi brillanti strappano più di una risata, soprattutto grazie alla chimica fra Casey Affleck, bravissimo nel ruolo di un uomo di poche parole e molto chiuso, e Lucas Hedge, un ragazzo come tanti per cui è facile provare simpatia ed empatia. 

Quando i toni virano al dramma più puro però, non sempre convince, alternando momenti riuscitissimi (una straordinaria Michelle Williams è protagonista di quella che è forse la scena più emozionante del film) ad altri in cui la messa in scena eccessivamente fredda e distaccata non permette il coinvolgimento emotivo dello spettatore.

In generale si ha l'impressione che spesso si giri a vuoto, in un susseguirsi di scene a volte molto belle a volte meno che però non aggiungono nulla né alla narrazione né ai personaggi, sfociando nella pesantezza e nella noia, domandandosi se il film non sarebbe potuto durare la metà. 

Non c'è costanza, nel lavoro di Lonergan, fra alti e bassi non si riesce mai davvero ad emozionarsi pienamente, nonostante i due protagonisti siano personaggi caratterizzati benissimo e meravigliosamente recitati.

Un ultimo appunto lo merita la colonna sonora: fastidiosa, irritante, soverchiante. E' raro che una musica sia così poco adatta alle immagini che accompagna e che, fin troppo spesso, le soffochi. Davvero un peccato perché alcune scene molto toccanti vengono rovinate dal fastidio provato dalla presenza ingombrante di questa colonna sonora francamente inconcepibile.

Manchester by the Sea è un film che non riesce mai a trovare una sua identità, che una scena sembra un capolavoro e quella dopo una noia mortale, retto quasi interamente da un cast da applausi.
