Sono state annunciate le nomination ai British Academy Film Awards 2021 (BAFTA), gli "Oscar Britannici", e sono molte le sorprese.
La maggior parte dei candidati non è caucasico, proviene dal Cinema Indipendente Britannico e ci sono tante donne. Questo "cambio di rotta" ha portato all'esclusione di nomi importanti, interpretazioni di alto livello che sicuramente ritroveremo agli Oscar. Tra gli attori/attrici assenze pesanti, come Gary Oldman, Viola Davis, Carey Mulligan, Glenn Close, Rosamund Pike, Olivia Colman, Jodie Foster, e Saha Baron Cohen, tra i registi invece sono assenti David Fincher e Aaron Sorkin.
A farla da padrona è comunque Nomadland di Chloe Zhao, seguito dal film indipendente britannico Rocks e poi The Father, Minari, Mank e Promising Young Woman.
Nota lieta per l'Italia, nella cinquina per il miglior trucco e acconciatura è presente Pinocchio di Matteo Garrone. Nomination più che meritata.
