Fanno scalpore le assenza di film come The Post e Il Filo Nascosto (cosa che quasi sicuramente non si ripeterà agli Oscar), ma le cinquine dei nominati danno già un'idea dei possibili favoriti per gli Academy Awards.Senza sua maestà Meryl Streep, nella cinquina delle migliori attrici si va delineando una sfida a due tra Margot Robbie (I, Tonya) e Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird), che dovranno però stare attente a due grandi attrici come Dame Judi Dench (Victoria & Abdul) e Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), senza dimenticare l'outsider Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water).
Per gli uomini, ancora una nomination per il giovane Timothée Chalamet (Chiamami col tuo Nome), che dovrà vedersela con James Franco (The Disaster Artist), Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out), Denzel Washington (Roman J. Israel, Esq.), e con quello che sembra essere il favorito, cioè Gary Oldman (The Darkest Hour).
Per le serie tv, si conferma mattatore Big Little Lies, che vede quasi tutto il suo cast nominato ma, curiosamente, è assente dalla cinquina del miglior cast.
Per il secondo anno consecutivo è nominata come migliore attrice di una serie drama la giovanissima "Eleven" Millie Bobby Brown per Stranger Things, serie che si è presa anche la nomination per il miglior cast insieme a (l'immancabile) Il Trono di Spade, The Crown, The Handmaid's Tale, e This is Us.
La cerimonia si terrà il 21 gennaio. Ecco tutte le nomination.
